Name of Artist: Anna Samsonova
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Lisa Mann, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: I love the subject of this piece and idea behind our experiences shaping who we are. Each picture tells a story and this one is a rich tapestry of artistry and ideas blended to a piece hat keeps the viewer different deeper into each story.
Name of Artist: Kalpesh Parmar
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org, Novice/For The Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: The overall effect of this lovely pastoral scene is one of tranquility and peacefulness. The composition is exceptionally well balanced and the artist has achieved excellent color harmony with a carefully restricted palette. The eye is drawn up and throughout the scene with ease. I could look at this painting for hours!
Name of Artist: Valerie McMullen
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Lisa Mann, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: A spot of absolutely sublime blue in the center keeps me involved in the painting and its calming scene. The artist has used just enough detail to keep me engaged, while offering a spot of calm in the center for my eyes to rest upon. Beautiful!
Name of Artist: Tammy Staab
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Lisa Mann, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: The use of line and color mix to create a splendid visual in this stunning piece. Streaks of red lead into a vibrant blue scene. All in all a lovely scene for the viewer. Well done!
Name of Artist: Jeannie Snider
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org, Novice/For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: Nicely rendered oil study at just 5 x 7 inches. The crushed can creates an interesting interplay of angular and oval geometric shapes, further accentuated by the use of low-value washes and high contrast color. It's a great example of how the most mundane of objects can make an excellent subject to paint.
Name of Artist: Nanci France-Vaz
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Nicole Moné, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: There is serenity and strength in this painting. The pose is simple yet compelling, and the warm colors complimenting the beautifully-handled flesh tones make this a sensitive work of an accomplished artist. A lovely portrait.
Name of Artist: Larry DeGraff
Award: BEST IN SHOW - Cash award $250 and free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Nicole Moné, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: The cleverly simple and strong composition, the economy of palette, good use of values, and the dynamic between artist and his creation converge to make this a beautifully compelling work. The subtle motion of the spinning pot and the wet clay on the potter’s hands are convincingly painted. I spent a lot of time with this painting and enjoyed every second of it. Well done!
Name of Artist: Bruce Bingham
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Lisa Mann, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: A really stunning execution blending color, shape, form. We are initially drawn to the dragon fly, yet we stay to explore the background, the mood, the feeling of days gone past.
Name of Artist: Jerry Markham
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Nicole Moné, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: This little little dancer commanded my attention. Effective use of light and clever handling of edges bring this painting to life. The paint splatters, which easily could’ve been messy, are effectively employed to assist in conveying the movement of the shawl and overall energy of the work. The adornments are skillfully handled and read as intricate details without being overworked. A bold and energetic painting.
Name of Artist: Carolyn Wuyts
Award: BEST IN SHOW - Cash award $50 and Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org, Novice/For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: An amazing sense of mystery surrounds this painting. Its ghostly atmosphere is supercharged by low value soft gradients contrasting with minimal but strong geometric lines. The boat sits silently in the water, but waiting for what? My imagination runs wild... is it real or am I dreaming?
Name of Artist: Anna Rose Bain
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Nicole Moné, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: The figure in this work is strong and the execution skillful, but the star for me with this painting is the light and atmosphere - the fresh crispness of the air and depth of color surrounding the figure brought me back to this painting again and again. Nicely done.
Name of Artist: Damien Gonzales
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Nicole Moné, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: There is power in simplicity. The subtle color and value shifts in the foreground beautifully support the rich, dazzling colors of those last few precious moments of a sunset. The artist has fit majesty and solitude into 8 x 12 inches. Beautiful work.
Name of Artist: TOM HEFLIN
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Lisa Mann, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: Lovely use of light and texture to tell the story of a forest; hidden trees, dripping moss, fairies, animals in the shadows. It’s all there for the viewer to imagine and experience.
Name of Artist: Jane Hunt
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Nicole Moné, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: The smart design and masterful brushwork keep the eye moving around this stunning painting - and makes this viewer want to linger in the scene. The artist packs in a lot of color and detail while managing to retain a beautiful subtlety, eliciting an emotional response to the landscape. Impressionistic excellence.
