REPRESENTATIONAL PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY

Name of Artist: Christine Columbo
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Heather Arenas, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "This portrait is handled with such sensitivity, it is obvious the artist has a connection to the subject. The edge handling and color harmony are really masterful. Really beautiful and more than just painting a model."
Name of Artist: Nancy Calder
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Heather Arenas, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "This story took some thought to set up and it is a still life taken to a higher level. The color harmony is lovely and the scene is handled very delicately as this subject should be. Wouldn’t want to break any eggs."
Name of Artist: Rick J. Delanty
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Heather Arenas, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "The artist has obvious experience painting night scenes. The color choices are really wonderful and turn a potentially flat scene into something dynamic. The moon glow really catches your eye and sings."
Name of Artist: Nicole Moné
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Heather Arenas, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "What a grand portrait of someone that shows so much more than just their face. This painting shows the depth of personality that a man can have and the depth of talent in the artist as well."
Name of Artist: Andreas Spiliotopoulos
Award: BEST IN SHOW - Cash award and free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Heather Arenas, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "This piece immediately caught my eye. The composition is fantastic and the rendering of each of the characters is proportional to their part in the story. ‘Wrestler’ is huge and I would love to see it in person! It is so nice to see artists tell a different story and not just render a subject."
Name of Artist: Thea Wolfe
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Heather Arenas, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "The lines in this piece are nicely choreographed to move your eye around the painting. This artist has done a wonderful job of demonstrating beauty in what would otherwise be mundane. The limited color is placed perfectly to enhance the composition."

Honorable Mention:

Where the Sky Meets the Earth by Thea Wolfe
This painting is an example of telling a story without perfectly rendering every item in it. The mood is obvious and I can feel myself standing in that Texas town with its oppressive heat.

ABSTRACT PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY

Name of Artist: Kaytee Esser
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Elizabeth Fontaine-Barr, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: "The movement of the dancing figures, the hot colors and floating abstract shapes create a great feeling of "FUN". The composition holds the "almost too much" movement together. The well balanced triangles are divided by the thick diagonal line, while each figure reaches for the other, bringing the energy back to center."
Name of Artist: LAran
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Elizabeth Fontaine-Barr, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: "This painting is an interesting combination of surreal and decorative imagery. Is the viewer in the presence of a palm tree and severe winds or an abstraction of an exotic bird in flight? There is an obvious fascination with the power of the wind and the high energy movement of the brush strokes adds to the mystery."
Name of Artist: Monika Harmund Csanyi
Award: BEST IN SHOW - Cash award and free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Elizabeth Fontaine-Barr, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: "This abstract painting has an intriguing quality. The artist has the talent to paint the rain in such a way that a deeper look is needed to discover the cityscape and soft clouds in the background. It is a very well orchestrated composition and use of a limited palette that truly holds the viewer engaged."

NOVICE / FOR THE LOVE OF PAINTING CATEGORY

Name of Artist: Viktoriya Tudoran (CodVT)
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "Nicely stylized, rhythmic composition achieves balance and harmony through its clever placement of elements; from large to small, overlapping shapes echo all the way to the horizon; the deliberately distorted perspective drawing mimics the sensation of a sprawing cityscape as processed in the minds' eye."
Name of Artist: Inga Vedmidska
Award: BEST IN SHOW - Cash award and free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "This painting is so well pulled together, its effect achieved through thoughtful brushwork, carefully balanced value placement, and deft edge execution. The impression of real fruit partially wrapped in cellophane, possibly resting on glass, along with an amazing sensation of texture and touch, is wondrously conveyed in so few strokes."
Name of Artist: Kalpesh parmar
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "The key to the painting is — the key! Careful placement of light and shadow balances the composition while the element of the key on the wall provides a focal point directing the viewer into the painting. Once inside, nicely rendered details and pleasing color harmony provide a rewarding experience."
Name of Artist: Dina Klumbys
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "Creative, moody impressionistic cityscape draws our fascination with its tangible sense of rhythm, repeating lines and shapes echoing the sensation of rain falling to water-slicked streets. The vivid red figure splashes through the elements—wind and rain, and seems unaffected by the surrounding gloom."
Name of Artist: Jeffrey Boring
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "Beautifully balanced still life comes alive by the rhythmic placement of light and shadow, pulling us into the canvas with its fluid organic shapes and varied edges. A strong sense of realism is achieved by use of well observed, true-to-life colors, while fluid, free-wheeling strokes add the sensation of a scene from memory."
Name of Artist: Karen Burns
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "Still life elements feel more than real; simple yet strong color harmony, careful placement of light and shadow, and nice treatment of edges, sharp to muted, all combine to the effect of a distinctive atmospheric quality and overall pleasing experience."
