REPRESENTATIONAL PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY

Name of Artist: Martin
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Debra Keirce, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "This is a beautiful portrait, reminiscent of the 17th Century masters who painted people in everyday scenes. I love the contemporary background. This artist is skilled and it is a joy to view their portraits."
Name of Artist: Inga Vedmidska
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Debra Keirce, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "This depiction of my favorite beverage kept bringing me back for a look. The reflection in the tea makes me think this scene is at a street side bistro. This is a pretty painting that conjures a smile. The accurate craftsmanship and calming mood are deserving of a place among the finalists."
Name of Artist: Spencer Meagher
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Debra Keirce, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "This painting conveys a mood that has me smelling pancakes and maple syrup and coffee. Everything about this painting transports me to a comfortable place in small town America. I love the colors, the loose brushwork and the rhythm of all the lines in this piece."
Name of Artist: Sharon Repple
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Debra Keirce, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "Sharon demonstrates in this piece how using warm and cool color transitions can turn form beautifully. Her white flower and buds are actually full of lovely hues that carry the realism in this painting."
Name of Artist: Deborah Tilby
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Debra Keirce, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "The light patterns and edges in this piece invite the viewer to explore the canopy and flag on the ship and then venture into the grove. I really like the way this composition flows, with an entry on the left and a spiral into the nicely rendered atmospheric forest beyond."
Name of Artist: Dhvani Patel
Award: BEST IN SHOW - Cash award and free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Debra Keirce, Representational Professional
Judge's Comment: "First, I was drawn to the uniqueness of this piece. It is difficult to paint concept pieces successfully. The desaturated palette offers up a subtle presentation of a very complicated painting. Technically, any artist will tell you that accurate ellipses are difficult to render, as is symmetry. The artist has done a beautiful job of wrapping an engaging narrative (relevant to today’s issues) in a way that touches in so many art genres. I am intrigued by how this piece could land in the fantasy, surreal, or trompe L’Oeil art categories. Yet, it has a decorative quality that designers would embrace. Also, the artist has portrayed the beauty of the nude in a way that is family friendly. I chose this piece for Best In Show because Dhvani Patel took on so many technical, social and conceptual challenges and created a piece I would happily hang above my mantle."

ABSTRACT PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY

Name of Artist: Monika Harmund Csanyi
Award: BEST IN SHOW - Cash award and free promoted entry
Judge and Category: Debra Keirce, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: "The title explains this painting in a representational sense. Yet, if you don’t know this is a scene through a car windshield on a rainy day, it is a series of shapes that explore movement in shadow. It could be a view of something exciting happening in space, an oil slick, a reflection. I enjoy this abstract piece because it engages the senses, and it is a window (pun intended) into the abstraction in our reality."
Name of Artist: Kim Wilkie
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: "This unique abstract, distinguished by the relationships of shape to color and line, feels to be a sort of neural network map, leaving us with a strong impression of an event or place. As if to incise pathways into memory, we are left with a sense of disparate remnants necessary to inform and remind us of our reality, the basis for all intuition."
Name of Artist: Kaytee Esser
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: "What stands out most in this painting is the excellent figure drawing despite the challenging pose, foreshortened forms in correct proportion. Color and line add to the effect, accentuating the sense of action and emotion portrayed in this nicely designed piece."
Name of Artist: Billy Moro-Wey
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Abstract Professional
Judge's Comment: "This painting takes us on a singular journey where we experience an eyeful of vivid dream-like images and impressions. Does the artist depict the Hand of Creation, nature and the elements moving in and out of harmony and tension? The universe vacillates between balance and chaos as paint winds through the canvas."

NOVICE / FOR THE LOVE OF PAINTING CATEGORY

Name of Artist: Nancy Price
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "Masses of high-temperature complementary color interact energetically in this unusually cropped landscape. Compounded by swaths of deep shade and other framing objects, vertical and horizontal lines loosely follow rules of perspective, with the effect of experiencing the cool shade of the sidewalk under a lovely flowering tree. The sunlit fence invites us to glimpse what's just beyond."
Name of Artist: Loes Reijnders
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "Interesting, complex composition conveys an effective knowledge of perspective despite apparently random, almost chaotic, positioning of objects on multiple levels. Keeps us looking on and through and speculating about the underlying narrative: is the subject feeling isolated or is it just an empty cafe?"
Name of Artist: Jessica Loren Green
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "An interesting portrayal of abstract figures sleeping beneath a magical sunset hints of its symbolism. We ponder our first impression: as the day draws to a close, the sun sets over a land of abundance and plenty. Women representing varied ethnic backgrounds sleep under the open sky, minds touching, incubating, dreaming, even creating, a future where ideals hold that all people live together peacefully, in community and freedom. Or, immersed in a state of hyper-sleep, they remain suspended through time, bypassing trials and turmoil to awaken on the new day."
Name of Artist: Debbie Bzdyl
Award: FINALIST - Free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: “A fascinating insight into the seaside experience is expressed in this compelling abstract. Especially after a long absence from the ocean, the combined effects of sunlight glistening over undulating surf, rhythm of crashing waves, scents of sand and seaweed, and taste of salty air over a warm breeze often conspire to overwhelm the senses.”
Name of Artist: Karen Burns
Award: BEST IN SHOW - Cash award and free promoted entry
Judge and Category: PaintingContest.Org Panel of Art Professionals, Novice / For the Love of Painting
Judge's Comment: "The apparent simplicity in this dramatically lit still life belies its complexity, its effects achieved by masterful rendering and a pronounced display of texture with skillful edge treatment. Positive and negative areas interact sparingly with saturated objects on a muted field, leaving us with a fascinating impression of three dimensional form and depth."
