    Description

Acryilic on 1.5" box canvas. Depicts the 14th century fresco, Maesta, by Simon Martini in the Palazzo Pubblico, Sienna, Italy. It shows the Virgin sitting on a throne surrounded by saints holding a canopy decorated with the black and white colours of Sienna. The Virgin is apparently admonishing the citizens and telling them that if they don't pray properly than cannot expect to have a law-abiding, happy community. Only one man is looking at the painting, close up, examining the incredible detail. The man sitting on the bench at the right is eyeing up the lady to his right, and another man is more interested in the ceiling than the painting. The lady with the walking stick is my wife. I made a mistake with her hand so gave her a stick to disguise it. I'm not entirely sure she was best pleased!
