    Description

"Time quake" is named after a book by Kurt Vonnegut, which The artist was reading while making the painting. Layers of imagery from revelations over time, including maps, a meditating goddess of compassion linked to roads and rivers via the network of veins and chakras of her body, overlaid with a geometric image given in a dream, which has a mathematical significance. This geometric configuration first appeared in a dream in 1979, while the artist was reading "The ABC of Relativity, and was subsequently worked out mathematically through a series of waking synchronization cues, for the 1979 painting "Einstein on the Beach". (Notice the umbrella and boardwalk imagery in the geometric form). The round image also resembles a clock, yet through the years as it continues to appear in various paintings, it always stays at 4:00. The artist has many conjectures but no definitive answers about why that might be.
