Through combining my love for traditional techniques with my storytelling skills, I have composed a self-portrait without my physical self included. I’ve always enjoyed producing colorful creations (like the crocheted scarf here), as well as gathering eye-stimulating keepsakes reminiscent of special memories to help ease my deeply depressive thoughts. In this painting, I’ve symbolized my attempt at preserving warmth and hope through creativity and self-expression, despite the feeling of unshakable melancholy.

Judge's Comment: "A deeply personal composition. The use of light and the treatment of edges create a very realistic dimension to this painting. The fabric of the hat with its folds and shadows as well as the little butterfly decoration, not to mention the attention to detail in each and every stitch of the scarf, is incredible. The muted palette supports the theme of this piece."
