This painting was inspired by a little nostalgia when seeing this old carousel. For a long time, I wanted to paint one of those carousels that remember me of some very nice childhood memories, so I was very happy when detecting it during a trip in Ireland. I took numerous pictures from various angles for reference. For the painting I wanted to add something of interest. Something that in the first glance don't quite fit in there to cause a certain irritation, to gain attention. I decided to add a living horse next to the carousel horses to put emphasis on their difference. You might think the living horse seems lonely and isolated. But is it? It is the the one who is free to move, to do whatever it likes and not just run around in the very same pattern. Being different doesn't sound so bad anymore.
