Steamer Changing Tracks - FINALIST, August 2019Save Favorites
There's something about a steam locomotive that commands my attention. The make up of the engine itself; the wheels, pilot and smoke stack, the collection of nuts and bolts, hoses and heavy iron, all clattering and hissing as it rolls along the track. I see geometric shapes in all of this and it inspires me to head to my easel.
In this painting, I tried to depict a sense of motion by drawing the front of the engine and its pilot (the part in front that sits low to the tracks), several times across the drawing surface as though the steamer were changing tracks somewhere along the line. I can almost hear the whistle blow and hear the chug-chug of the steam as it escapes into the air.
