I used to live in Sedona as an illustrator for board games.  In 2015, I moved to North Carolina and started painting acrylic portraits full time.  Currently my goal is to experiment with painting technique, and to create work that is loose, spontaneous, and expressive, yet also realistic.  You might call me a "contemporary realist."  This piece is part of my "Heads in Space" series, in which I wanted the negative space, or background, to have a presence, and also seem to be encroaching in on the subject.  In this particular piece I imagined the subject could feel the empty space wrapping around her.  I also wanted to exaggerate unique facial features, experiment with color combinations, emphasize dramatic lighting, and use bold brushtrokes.
