This Meeting Is Over, BoysSave Favorites
Inspired by clever businesswoman and revolutionary clothing designer Coco Chanel. Coco's designs were elegant but comfortable and practical, as they freed women from wearing corsets. She said that, "My fortune is built on that old jersey that I'd put on because it was cold." Many love affairs but never married, Coco built her business through the famous little black dress, the simple classic Chanel suit, and her fragrance No. 5.
My model recreated Coco's all-business attitude, so the title could only be "This Meeting Is Over, Boys." I included objects in the background to suggest a fashion design room, fabric samples, dressmaker's form, and sketches in the far wall, as well as her ever present cigarette.
The most fun part of this painting was the hat. As I worked the shape with pastel, somehow the sanded paper accepted the pastel in a way that looks like touchable, velvety wool.
