Description

With all of the leaves long gone, I spotted this little nest outside my studio window. I don't think my husband signed up for climbing trees, but he did bring this in for me. The nest was abandoned last year and was empty. I kept looking at it wondering how best to use it in a painting, realizing that simple is best. Spring comes early to Northern California so I shouldn't have to wait too long now for new leaves on the trees and birds busy nesting again.

Judge's Comment: "The flowing, directional sweep of this beautifully balanced still life just draws us right in as we enjoy perusing the contrasting textures, varied edges, skillfully rendered forms and pleasing color harmony. The little blue egg in the spiraling nest is a sweet reward that reverberates in the mind and touches the heart."
