I was still in college when I began working on this piece in the beginning of 2016. I was making a body of work that centered around the theme of flowers. Most of the time I didn't bear specific flowers in mind, though for this particular painting, I was initially thinking of daffodils. The yellow flowers have been painted somewhere on the canvas, but soon covered up with new layers of paint, until it wouldn't make sense to name the work "Daffodils" any longer. I named it "Spring" because, there I was, waiting for spring in the winter, waiting to finally graduate after one last term. The word also signifies the motion of things "springing" forward. I pictured freshly watered flowering plants, and attempted to emulate the motion of the water drops being moved and blown about in the air by a forceful wind. This creates the illusion of water jumping out from the abstracted plant forms, as if more life energies were leaping out from a central life source.
