This painting is one of a few paintings of mine that are dominated by dark colors. Most of my paintings happened, not planned, to be in bright colors since I paint to feel happy and to help others to feel happy. This painting is dark-colored, but very happy looking. I was so happy when I finished this painting that I had to come out of bed in the middle of night to see my happy accomplishment one more time, and one more time...
Seung-min, the boy in the painting, is a son of my dear friend Eunkyung who lives in Korea with her family. We have been friends since we were teenagers, sharing so many stories, laughter and tears. One day she shared a photo of her son's birthday party through social media. The smile of Seung-min in front of candle lights enticed me into painting this picture. I sent the original painting to the boy as a gift, so he has it now. This painting has been introduced in a published book written in Korean by Eunkyung and her family. The name of the book is "Our Little Forest." They expressed how much love and happiness this painting had added to that family. That's all that matters to me as an artist.
