Description

This horsehair pot was made by a local (North Carolina) potter. I placed it with the pine twig because the pine cone seemed roughly to be the same shape just smaller and upside down and the pine needles reminded me of the patterns on the pot. All helter-skelter. The arching sprig of eucalyptus, with it’s evenly spaced disc catching the light just seem to bring order to it all.

Judge's Comment: "Beautifully balanced still life comes alive by the rhythmic placement of light and shadow, pulling us into the canvas with its fluid organic shapes and varied edges. A strong sense of realism is achieved by use of well observed, true-to-life colors, while fluid, free-wheeling strokes add the sensation of a scene from memory."
