My paintings focus on the beauty of the Native American artifacts. I use light and shadow and a variety of textures to try to bring life and a three dimensional quality to my oil paintings.

In "Enduring Heritage", the arrangement of chili peppers and the nicked Acoma pot draw the eye toward the intricate, glistening beadwork of the moccasins sitting on the soft fuzzy blanket.

Judge's Comment: "I’ve read that judges in art competitions tend to select work for awards that is most like their own. That is certainly not accurate in my selection of this painting for recognition, as I personally gravitate toward loose, painterly works when I consider inspiration for my own work. BUT I admire the sincerity and love that is the effect created on (in) me by a truly well-painted work, faithful to its subject in every detail. Perhaps that’s the appeal of trompe l’oeil paintings such as those magically created by William Harnett: the love of the subject is borne to the viewer through the love of painting. The patterns and textures, selection of color, creation of the illusion of form, evocation of believable light and shadow in this work draw me in not because the painting is so detailed, but because I can tell that the painter is in love with what she is doing."
