Kim Wilkie has intuitively painted with textile and string for many years and for the past few years she has coupled paint and the fibre of the land while painting "en plein air." Her intuitive painting process has now narrowed down her materials to acrylic paint and pencil. She instinctively paints over paint marks on canvas or board to reveal familiar objects and images that may at time remind her of places or things of her memory. "Places in my mind, Taos" Is an example of that process.

Judge's Comment: "This unique abstract, distinguished by the relationships of shape to color and line, feels to be a sort of neural network map, leaving us with a strong impression of an event or place. As if to incise pathways into memory, we are left with a sense of disparate remnants necessary to inform and remind us of our reality, the basis for all intuition."
