I love dichotomies. I find myself representing them in my paintings, even when I don't always think I am. Beauty in the broken, male and female, cold and brittle vs. soft and supple are some of my favorite themes. Strangely, a recent visit to an insectarium left me in tears. I was so taken by the beautiful colors and textures in the beetle and butterfly specimens I saw there. How can something so creepy and disgusting and filthy be so intriguing and beautiful that it brings me to tears? There ya go. There's the dichotomy. Had to paint it.

Just an amazing work of art.

    Amazing watercolor.

Beautiful, can feel the quiet and almost a cricket.

Beautiful approach - I feel the chill from the snow but the hints of the red background peeking through provide a lovely, warm contrast that's so inviting.

    Fun and very well done.
