I was looking for ways to equate color as music to the eyes. I listen to either classical or jazz while I paint, so I started exploring the instruments which create these types of music. I actually started the painting using violins because the gorgeous reflective veneer offered all kinds of color possibilities. But then I found myself struggling as I tried to force more complex color relationships where they didn't belong. So I switched from classical to jazz, from violins to horns, and found the intricate balance of color that I was looking for.
