    Description

The name of this piece is Hungry Squirrel and the medium is scratchboard. Sometimes referred to as scraperboard (especially in Great Britain), but usually called scratchboard in North America and Australia, is a form of direct engraving where the artist scratches off dark ink to reveal a white or colored layer beneath. Scratchboard refers to both a fine-art medium, and an illustrative technique using sharp knives and tools for engraving into a thin layer of white China clay that is coated with dark, often black India ink.

This little fellow won 3rd place in the drawing category in the juried gallery at the Edmonds, Washington Arts Festival in June, 2018.

    beautiful

This is a beautiful portrait. For this viewer that lovely face reflects innocence and purity, although that is perhaps not what the artist intended. Great skill is demonstrated with all the elements of this piece - particularly the textures of the hair and the cap. Overall it is an outstanding image.

Well, one must read the description with this painting. The artist projects such an enthusiastic spirit and I am immediately caught up! This painting surely conveys the fantastical, a place inspired by dreams of other realms -- yet within this world, shrouded in the lore of history and days gone by.

I wish there was more socially motivated art such as this one about beach erosion; the concept is well symbolized with falling angles and elements. There is color (life) above but a cold bareness below.

Very colorful meeting of shapes conveys a happy feeling. Looks like a gathering of boats -- as if they are all talking.
