Fortress Cove, Psalm 18Save Favorites
This painting was inspired by both a physical place, and by an idea. Garrapata State Beach near Big Sur, Ca, was its starting-point. The remainder of the painting was invented, re. its texture and much of the lighting. Scriptural inspiration was part of its making also, as I have read and believed in Psalm 18, verses 1 and 2: "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge... my stronghold."
Although this cove is a place of peace, there is a wildness around and about it, in the textures and activity of the brushstrokes, that intimates that the world is not peaceful everywhere.
