"John B" is from an on-going series of narrative, figurative portraits entitled "Second Wind." My goal is to challenge stereotypical views of aging by focusing on the vitality and creativity of individuals who have found a new vocation; their active and passionate engagement with creative pursuits developed after the age of sixty-five.
John, a retired barber is now a wood carver/sculptor who creates a myriad of fanciful and functional items.
This series aims to exemplify the grace and wisdom of those who possess a wealth of knowledge that can only be obtained through a lifetime of experience. And from a painting standpoint, I aspire to preserve the alchemy of light as it transforms the familiar to the extraordinary.
