"The Trumpeting Trumpeter"Save Favorites
I have always loved combining the detail work of a still life with the whimsy of adding a bird to the composition. My main focus is to take objects of meaning or that I find beautiful and paint them in their best light. Telling a story through reflections, shadows and different textures.
When my Mother was 18 & attending UW Stevens Point, she went on a group dorm date. She requested the tallest male. That ended up being my Dad. They had the kind of love you only see in movies. He would always say they were each others trumpeter swan, since they're known to mate for life. In fact some males who lose their mate never even look for another (& trumpeters just happen to be the tallest type of swan). On January 17th it will be 10 years since my Mom passed away & my Dad still feels the same...she was it for him. I wanted to paint this gorgeous bird as a tribute to their love.
