Painting water has always been a challenge and the reference photo for this piece was intriguing. I am familiar with the area around Pfrimmer's Chapel as it has a family connections and the creek is actually near the headwaters of Big Indian Creek which flows through Corydon. The photo was actually very green but we all know cameras lie. The understory area of the creek is mysterious and deep in shadow much of a summers day, so there are greens but there is also the dank moisture of the creek banks, minnows in the shallows and stillness. I attempted to depict the sense of this place with this painting. I entered it in our local gallery, The Artisan Center, Fall show and it sold opening night.
