    Michael Cothren

Final awards judges: Michael W. Cothren, Vince Fazio, and Victoria Oldham. Grand prize winners of the Sedona Art Prize painting competition will be announced prior to August 31, 2017.

Michael W. Arriving at Swarthmore in 1978, he taught specialized courses on Medieval, Roman, Islamic, and Native North American art and architecture, as well as seminars on visual narrative and on theory and method, but he particularly enjoys teaching the survey to Swarthmore beginners. His research and publications have focused on French Gothic stained glass, but recently he has turned his attention to the ceramic painters of the Mimbres culture, which flourished in what is now New Mexico, c. 1000–1150 CE. Michael is a consultative curator at Glencairn Museum in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. He has served on the board of the International Center of Medieval Art and as president both of the American Committee of the International Corpus Vitrearum and of his local school board.
