Valerie McMullen

ValerieMcMullen AbstractPainter

For Valerie McMullen, her inspiration to become an artist began with her father, a traditional watercolorist and noted painter of tropical birds and florals.

In 1991, Valerie graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art. Following college, she became a flight attendant for American Airlines. Traveling to many cities around the world, she was able to view firsthand the art of great masters she had studied while in college. After meeting and marrying her husband, Jody, she was encouraged to pursue her passion for painting.

Valerie continued to attend workshops for painting in traditional watercolors, but it was a workshop with noted Pennsylvania artist Nessa Grainger that led to a whole new outlook; demonstrations of ways to use mixed media and collage would transform her perspective on her own art, expanding her vision and leading her to explore a world of possibilities.

Valerie continues to pursue her artistic training, including attending classes at the Scottsdale Artists’ School and workshops with many talented instructors such as Stan Kurth and Timothy Rees. She is a Signature Member of the Arizona Watercolor Association and a Juried Member of the Arizona Art Alliance.
